Evelyn’s been missing you

0 Responses

Evelyn doesn’t get a lot of airtime around here. So I thought I’d update you with some of her latest pics. As you’ll see she’s not really a happy cat. She’s such a grumpy creature – pretty much the opposite of Henry.

And she always seems to have boogies in her eyes. She hates when I try to clean them.

This is her refusing to drink water for my picture.

This is Evelyn hanging out in her favorite outside spot, under the magnolia tree in the backyard.

Generally looking sad.

Hanging out in her favorite inside spot, on the trunk where she can look out the window and watch the birds that roost in the transom on the other side of the room.

A Guinea Pig Love Story

0 Responses

Our very first pet story comes to us from Jeanette Gardner, about her and her husband’s pet guinea pigs. Now if you’re like me, you haven’t had much interaction with guinea pigs since science classes in grade school. At my school we had all the standard pets – mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, lizards – basically anything that could be kept in a cage and easily cared for over breaks. Jeanette and her husband came in to having pet guinea pigs when they decided they didn’t want to deal with all the responsibility of a dog.

It sounds like Jeanette was a bit skeptical at first but has really grown to love her piggies as much as any of us love our doggies and kitties  (and babies). She even recommends it to those of you that aren’t really ready or can’t have a dog at the moment. Busy apartment dwellers – we’re looking at you!

Do you have a pet story you’d like to share with us? Please do! Just fill out this form. You can even upload a picture.

Without further ado, here’s Jeanette’s story! (video and pictures after the break)

Guinea Pig Love

I never really knew how smart guinea pigs are, and that they can actually have you wrapped around their little finger by their cute demands.

We adopted two guinea pigs, mother and daughter of 1 and 3 years old in October of 2011. After buying a house, we wanted to get a pet, and decided against getting a dog for now. Instead, we are proud parents of two loveable guinea pigs, Harmony and Melody. Hey, you don’t have to walk them at all hours of the day or evening!

Our two adorable piggies have out smarted us in a lot of funny but very cute ways. They know our schedules for eating, and by this what amazes me is that they know of the exact “timing” of different hours for our meals, and for them to get their pellets and their treats. I’m normally the first one up, get the coffee on and check up on our guinea pigs. It’s really funny to watch them at that time as they are both standing up on their little front legs on their empty bowl looking at me, and squealing for me to give them their pellets.

After eating their pellets, they will have a nap for a while as they somehow know my Husband will be up shortly. Read More…

Henry in the sun on the bed

If you didn’t know already, I pretty much think Henry is the cutest thing in the world. I made him sit for a little photoshoot yesterday and I wanted to share the pictures with you. I especially like the closeups and the yawn. Enjoy!

Henry’s very own “thundershirt”

2 Responses

It was starting to storm last night as we went to bed, and Henry, like most dogs, hates storms. If it’s lightning and thundering at night, he’ll come bust down our bedroom door (which actually isn’t that hard, he just has to push on it) and get in bed with us. (You make think we’re jerks for not letting him sleep with us, but that little guy takes up a lot of room and wiggles a lot.)

So Josh wrapped him up and made him a “thundershirt” of his very own. He seemed pretty okay with it – didn’t wiggle or try to get out, just sorta sat there like he is in this picture.

It might’ve worked all night if someone hadn’t tipped him over. After that we got him out of there and took him to bed with us so he could wait out the storm under our comforter. He’s lucky he’s a cute little booger.

But seriously, maybe someday we’ll get Henry a Thundershirt of his very own. They have a ton of good feedback on their facebook wall.

Catsterpiece Classics: Downton Tabby

Well if you haven’t seen Downton Abbey yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a period drama set in WWI England and it’s wonderful. These geniuses have taken it a step further to bring us Downton Tabby. If you watch the show you will definitely appreciate it and if you don’t it’s still a good laugh. Cats in dresses are hilarious. Do any of your cats have dresses? I’m going to show this to Evelyn to see if she wants one.

Wait, what am I talking about asking Evelyn’s permission? She would look great in a dress and Henry in a suit. Cutest picture ever!
